Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Kumar on Friday expressed full confidence that the State police was competent and capable of taking on anti-Naxal operations on its own.
Exhorting the Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP), he said, “We are a young and strong force and in order to boost confidence, it is important that we begin taking on challenges on our own. It’s time we start weighing our potential.”Kumar was speaking at passing-out parade of 230 trainees at JAP 8 ground in Palamau’s lesliganj. He was accompanied by ADGs KN Choubey, KS Meena, SN Pradhan, IGs MS Bhatia and Ml Meena, Palamau DIG RK Dhan and SPs of Palamau and latehar.
Kumar said JAP personnel were very efficient and would prove really useful if they coordinate well with other wings of State police. The DGP said JAP would soon be posted in Naxal-hit areas, as part of strategy. “We will be carrying out independent operations very soon. But it doesn’t mean we don’t require assistance from CRPF and other security agencies. We will continue operations with the CRPF along with few independent operations by JAP,” he said.
“It must also be considered,” he said, “that today we have CRPF assistance which may get withdrawn in future. So, we need to groom our forces to handle combat operations independently in hilly terrains.”Kumar underlined the need for opening up of a constable training academy. The DGP also praised ADG KN Choubey for a kind of an assessment of the police performance. He said Choubey’s findings speak of a younger force in the State as constables and havildars have still many more years to grow grey and thus constitute the massive bulk of the force. The DGP pointed out the JAP was engaged in the anti-Naxal drive along with other regular policing jobs.Ten platoons of successful freshers did drill and parade in an impressive manner. The 230 youths come from Palamau, Simdega and Gumla.
