The legislators of Jharkhand Assembly will vote on the Constitutional amendment Bill for Goods and Services Tax in a special session called on Wednesday. The Monsoon Session has been extended and called for another day on August 17 to pass the Bill cleared by the lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Both the ruling NDA and principal Opposition party -- JMM held meetings on Tuesday evening here to devise strategy for voting on the Bill. While, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha decided to call for an extensive debate on the Bill, the NDA hoped to get the bill passed by the State Assembly comfortably.
After holding a meeting on Tuesday party’s working president and former CM Hemant Soren said that they would call for wholesome debate on the Bill and not blindly vote for it. “We are not just approvers, who would say yes to anything that comes to us. The Bill is imperfect and we cannot let it go like that,” said Hemant.
Meanwhile a meeting of NDA leaders was called at CM Raghubar Das’ official residence where legislators of the BJP and the AJSU party planned to vote for the Bill. After the meeting Parliamentary Affairs minister Saryu Roy said that they hoped to see the Bill gets passed by the House comfortably.
While the NDA and Congress are in favour of the Billl, JMM and JVM are looking a bit skeptical of it. As the GST Bill is a legislation meant for Constitutional amendment, it has to be ratified by at least half of the States in the country. Bihar Assembly today passed the Bill as Assam had become the first State to approve the legislation.
