Jharkhand’s three Government hospitals are likely to have plastic surgery departments. The Union Government is in talks with private plastic surgeons of the State for the collaboration.

“The Burn Rehabilitation project is in pipeline. The Government hospitals, including RIMS, MGM and PMCH have been proposed. Similar departments will be set up in States which have been lacking the facility. The Centre has sanctioned Rs600 crore for the project,” said Indian Medical Association’s national vice-president Ajay Kumar during the launch of ‘Save the Hand’ programme at Chamber Bhawan on Saturday.

The programme was conducted by city’s plastic surgeon Dr Anant Sinha. Plastic Surgeon Dr Raja Sabhapathy from Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, who had been heading several international and national medical conferences, was the first to suggest the need to the Government for the sake of people working in various sectors where there are possibilities of burn injuries. He presented several examples of burn injuries.

Chief Guest on the occasion, labour Secretary Rahul Sharma felt support from private medical fraternity will benefit the project. According to Sharma, Burn Rehabilitation project will benefit around 20 lakh people employed in organised sector and 80 lakh people in unorganised sector. “Employees State Insurance Corporation is revamping its schemes for such medical provisions,” said Sharma.
