Newly constituted Jharkhand State Dental Council (JSDC) has been tasked to keep a check on fraudulent and unethical practices undertaken by dentists here.
This apart, the Council, which has come into existence for the first time in Jharkhand since it parted ways from Bihar, would ease the practitioners in getting their registrations done well within the State.
Informing about the development having taken place a couple of days back with the Department of Health and Medical Education ascertaining the JSDC, Dr Sushil Kumar said the Council would conduct a drive and generate awareness across the State in this regard.
“There was no such body earlier where the dentists can get themselves registered in the State. Whosoever are practicing have either got registration from other states or are un-registered. There may be several unauthorised doctors involved in unethical practice or improper treatment but getting let-off since there was no such regulatory authority in place. Now the Council has come into existence that can look into these aspects,” said Dr Sushil, who has been named as Registrar of the JSDC, addressing a press conference on Wednesday.
Also present on the occasion was Dr Vivek Kumar Singh who has been instrumental in getting the Council come into force in Jharkhand. “The forum would get the dentists from Jharkhand registered here. Now, those practising in the State need not go to other states to get themselves renewed. This would regularise and streamline the system. This apart, the Council can take cognizance of the complaints coming against any doctor and get it examined before initiating action and intimating the Department,” he said.
Dr Vivek Singh is a member of Dental Council of India (DCI) and has been given the task by the apex council of the country in dentistry to setup State level councils in all such States where it is missing. “I am happy that I began this job from Jharkhand,” he added.
Members of the Council are of the view that best practices and regulations adopted in other places would be followed and adopted in Jharkhand in future. “There are State level councils in several states of the country having well laid down procedures. The procedures are there for the benefits of the dentists as well as to ensure quality service and standard treatment to the patients. The JSDC would follow the rules in this regard which would ensure better environment for both the doctors and the patients,” said Dr Vivek. Also present on the occasion was Dr NN Singh, HOD in RIMS, Dr Anshu Sahu, Dr Zaffar besides, other members of the council.
