State continues facing shortage of vaccines

Published on:

Several vaccination centres in the State Capital are getting closed due to non-availability of vaccines in the State Capital. The centre where vaccines are administered that too

is functioning half day as the centre has not received enough allotment.

The tardy pace of vaccination in the State can be gauged from the fact that in Jharkhand 7.81 lakh vaccines were administered in Jharkhand from June 22 to 28, but at the same time only 4.94 lakh vaccines were administered from June 29 to July 5. This is 36.78% less than from last week’s data.

A doctor at IMA requesting anonymity said, “The vaccination centre at IMA Bhawan has been closed for the past few days as we are not receiving enough vaccines from the centre. The centre which is open has a long queue of people waiting for their chance to get vaccines.”

Echoing the views of IMA doctor, Parwati Devi a resident of Ratu Road area said, “As per Cowin app my second dose of vaccines was slated on June 29, but when I reached the vaccination centre I was shocked to discover that there were no vaccines. The IMA Bhawan where I had gone to get the vaccines was closed.”

Devi added she visited other centres too, but that too were having long waits. Sources said people have been queuing since morning to get vaccines, but many times even after waiting for hours they don’t get their chance for vaccination.

The slow vaccination is not only confined to Jharkhand, but in other

States too vaccination pace has gone down.

The pace of vaccination has slowed in the country since the ‘Mega Vaccination Day’ on June 21. From June 21 to 27, a total of 4.13 crore vaccines were administered in 7 days, while in the next seven days only 2.82 crore people were vaccinated in the next seven days which is 32% less than the previous seven day record.

But, what is worrying is that there is little hope of an increase in vaccination before July 31. The Centre has said that states will get 12 crore vaccines this month, out of which 2 crore have been given till July 4. The remaining 10 crore vaccines will be available to the States in the next 25 days.
