State Cong gets ready for new team

Following his elevation to the post of the president of the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC), Ajoy Kumar has now started to build a new team of the party leaders  for some of the top posts in the State. Consultation for this has begun with meetings held with divisional level leaders.

Sources close to the developments taking place since the change of guard in the party said that old faces would not be overthrown altogether. “He is still into consultation process. Four meetings with the four divisional level office bearers except Palamu have taken place. As the process is completed after formal election of Rahul Gandhi as party national president, the PCC president would hold consultations to select top office bearers in the PCC,” said a general secretary.

The State unit of the party has been assigned with some names of the likes of old timers Furkan Ansari, Subodh Kant Sahay, KN Tripathi as members of campaign committee and different others, spokespersons and like that but crucial posts  of vice president, general secretaries and secretaries are to be designated.

“He would form his own team of vice president and general secretaries to work with him in close quarters. Ajoy Kumar has been associated with the State longer than his association with the party and he knows about leaders working at ground level. Active members working with the previous team under Sukhdeo Bhagat would continue under him as well but some of them are sure to be dropped out,” said a close aide of the PCC president.

It is also learnt that at the behest of the party leadership in Delhi, Ajoy Kumar is also looking at frontal organisations of the Congress like NSUI, Youth Congress and Women     Congress. “New faces from these sister organisations would also be given a chance to work for the party more actively. It is particularly important looking at the challenges before the new PCC president ahead of upcoming lok Sabha and Assembly elections. He needs some fresh legs to work every nook and corner of the party,” said Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, known for his closeness to Ajoy Kumar.

However, the indications coming in suggest that the PCC president would take his time and the announcement of the team would take a couple of months.
