Government on Thursday completed 1 crore Covid-19 tests, covering almost one-third of Jharkhand's 3.29 crore population, figures released by the National Health Mission (NHM) highlighted.

As per NHM data, Jharkhand has tested 10,035,595 swab samples so far and 3,45,706 of them, about 3.4 per cent, were found Covid positive.

On Thursday, the State tested 51,952 swab samples and 96 of them, around 0.18 per cent, were found infected by novel coronavirus, the NHM highlighted in its Covid bulletin. The active caseload in the State dropped to 854 on the day as at least 156 Covid patients recovered from the infection, the bulletin further stated.

At least five districts — Saraikela, Lohardaga, Khunti, Godda and Chatra — did not report fresh cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, while Ranchi and East Singhbhum reported ten cases each, the NHM data highlighted.

The active caseload in Ranchi dropped to 223 as at least 38 patients recovered here on the day. As many as 14 patients recovered in East Singhbhum, bringing the active caseload there down to 99.

The State on Thursday did not report fresh Covid casualties. As per Government data, as many as 5,113 Jharkhand residents have died of the viral infection so far and 1,584 of the deceased were from Ranchi. At least 1,036 people have died of Covid-19 in East Singhbhum, while the Covid toll in the remaining 22 districts was less than 1,000.

As per Government data, the growth rate of Covid cases in Jharkhand was 0.02 per cent against the national average of 0.11 per cent on Thursday. Of the over 3.45 lakh people infected by coronavirus in the state, 98.27 per cent have recovered and 1.47 per cent could not survive.

While the active caseload and growth rate of Covid-19 continued to drop, the State had to administer less than 35,000 jabs of vaccines against the virus owing to a shortage of doses on Thursday. As per Government data, the first dose of vaccine was administered to 26,826 residents and the second dose to 6,947 beneficiaries.

Jharkhand, however, is likely to receive fresh stock of vaccines for the month of July on Friday after which the vaccination drive will gain momentum, health officials said, claiming that the State aims to vaccinate at least 1 lakh beneficiaries every day in the month of July.
