State’s First PHC on PPP mode inaugurated in Dhanbad

Published on:

On Tuesday, Citizens Foundation in association with National Health Mission, Jharkhand took over the charge of Primary Healthcare Centre, Chirkunda in Dhanbad as the first ever PHC to be operated on a PPP (Public Non-Profit Partnership) mode in the State. The project started with an initial plan of implementing better healthcare facilities through engagement of non-profit organizations across the state and ensuring supply of manpower for the health facility.

Unlike other states where operation of health facilities like CHCs and PHCs on such a model have been underway for years, with this initiative, Jharkhand is also in the league for starting a new legacy in the operation of healthcare service via non-profit organizations. Just like the previous arrangements, consultations and treatment for the people walking in will continue to be free of cost with referrals for cases to be made into the CHC as required.

“Citizens Foundation has signed the MoU with NHM Jharkhand for 11 such PHCs across 6 districts in the State.

It is a moment of both pride and responsibility for us as a nonprofit working in improving the healthcare sector of the state. We have worked for over a decade operating Community Healthcare Centres and Tribal MESO Hospitals for Meghalaya NHM and Jharkhand Tribal Development Society respectively on a similar model and we believe that with a goal oriented approach, both the people and community can benefit from the model in the long run,” said Ganesh Reddy, Secretary cum CEO. Citizens Foundation.

The launch event, conducted on the occasion of World AIDS Day, had a gathering from people in the community who were introduced to the new team. A small plantation was done on the campus as a token gesture of a new beginning by the team.
