Cases regarding the prisoners lodged in different jails over 14 years were considered of which decision was taken on 25 of them.

“When dealing with the applications, the issues of the criminals’ background, nature of crime and also possibility of committing crime again by the prisoner must be taken into account,” said Soren. Soren also directed that those cases where consent of the concerned SP is necessary for the board, must be sent immediately in order to check further delay in taking decisions.

The Jharkhand Government in February had also recommended for the release of 51 prisoners serving life terms as more than 1,000 prisoners in the State’s jails were on a hunger strike, demanding their release as they have completed their

sentences.
