Ranchi SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi on Tuesday suspended Investigating Officer (IO) Prabhakar Chaurasia in a gangrape case related to Kanke Police Station (64/16) for negligence in discharging duty and carelessness during investigations. The SSP ensured that the case will not be taken casually.

“The SSP has also issued show-cause notice to Chaurasia why he did not book the culprits under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 and ST/SC Act due to which seven out of eight persons arrested in the case were granted bail by the court,” said DSP Vikas Chandra Srivastava. Meanwhile, the case has been handed over to the concerned DSP for further investigation, added Srivastava.

The DSP further added that the police will again pray before the court to impose all sections applicable in the case. “The police will make sure that those persons who have been granted bail in this connection, are arrested again after imposing the missing sections against them,” said the DSP.

A 13 year old girl, who was abducted from Ranchi by his friends on June 27, 2016, was recovered from Simdega after 4 days who was allegedly raped by 11 persons for 4 days in Simdega and other places.

The Sarna Samiti on Tuesday also staged protest before the SSP office demanding dismissal of Kanke Officer in Charge. Sarna Samiti also expressed its annoyance over the release of some of the culprits in spite of their arresting by Simdega Police.

“Despite the statement recorded by the girl under section 164 alleging gang rape by all the eleven persons, the police tried to save them after taking money from them and were released on bail,” stated a press release issued by Chadri Sarna Samiti. It poses a suspicion over the functioning of Ranchi Police, said the press release.

Samiti further demanded Ranchi Police to take immediate action in such serious matters and put culprits in jail so that the morale of the anti-social does not get boosted up any further. It will also ensure immediate justice to the victim, said the press release.

The Samiti also warned Ranchi police that the police will be bound to launch statewide protest if action was not taken within 72 hours in this regard.
