Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kuldeep Dwivedi urged citizens on Saturday to observe their fundamental duties exactly the way they remember their fundamental rights, so that the police could find it little easier to serve every citizen in more affectionate manner.
Divulging details of COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) in New Police line, he said that the police were taking all necessary steps to let citizens feel safer in the city at any point of time and anywhere.
“The entire motto of COPS campaign is to make law-abiding citizens feel safe anywhere and anytime, and make law-breakers feel unsafe in their safest possible hideouts. This can’t happen in absence of police-public participation. COPS programme serves exactly the same purpose of making the city safe by police-public participation,” said Dwivedi, addressing the media about Police Aapke Dwar Campaign.
Traffic SP Sanjay Ranjan Singh, SP (Rural) Rajkumar lakra, Retired Colonel Khalid Khan, Dy. SP (Composite Control Room) TK Jha and many other Dy. SPs and officials down the line were present on the occasion. ‘Police Aapke Dwar’ campaign will be officially launched on Sunday by Jharkhand DGP DK Pandey at Aryabhatt Hall of Ranchi University. Jha said that the campaign was an ambitious programme by the DGP, only to be replicated in entire State once Ranchi tasted success of it.
After facing much discomfort and criticism last year over a number of cases which turned the masses uncomfortable, the capital city police have decided to start New Year afresh and to act in close association with the people. Installation of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at important junctures in coming weeks, integration of Beat Police, Shakti Commando and PCR with soon-to-be-formed Muhalla Committees for enhancing response time and installation of police post box in every cluster are some of the important steps through which the police are trying to make citizens feel cozy with the police.
“We are in the process of creating clusters of Muhalla Committees under every police station, which will remain connected to local Beat Police and senior officials through a WhatsApp group. We will install Police Post Box in every cluster, primarily in or around already constructed Community Hall in every Muhalla or as suggested by Muhalla Committee members so that anonymous complaints and suggestions could be invited without hesitation. We will try to connect with every citizen in at least one way or the other,” said Dwivedi.
He added that formation of Muhalla Committee in Shivpuri area on a pilot basis worked wonders, which encouraged the Police to go ahead with it to curb crime with support of local residents. “We have identified 20 such muhallas in the first phase to form Muhalla committee, keeping the frequency of criminal activities taking place there. Every Muhalla Committee will have one male and one female member with all possibilities to add more numbers in consultation with locals, and they will be tagged with Beat Officer for quicker response in need,” elaborated Dwivedi.
