A team of the Special Protection Group (SPG) arrived at Sindri on Tuesday to make security preparations ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit on Friday.
On its part, the Dhanbad district administration has also beefed up preparations, after rounds of high-level meetings.
As per the plan finalised, arrangements for as many as one lakh people have been made at the venue of the Prime Minister's programme. "Sindri airstrip is going to be the venue of the PM's programme where he would be landing by a chopper directly from Kolkata. We have prepared three landing strips for the fleet of choppers accompanying him to land. Also, administrative officials such as magistrates have been deputed and are being briefed about their role during the PM's stay here," said Dhanbad SDO Rakesh Kumar.
The venue is being equipped with a huge waterproof pandal with sitting capacity of over one lakh people. Drop gates at all the entry points to the venue have been installed. "Arrangement to park about 1500 vehicles near the venue itself is being done. All desired basic amenities such as drinking water, toilets, medical units etc are there. Proper arrangement for fire safety inside and outside the pandal has been done," said the SDO.
Though the final minute-to-minute programme of the Prime Minister has not been released as of now, it is expected that the multi-faceted event would take place in the second half on May 25.
"We have not got the details and it would not be proper to tell officially about the programme of the Prime Minister.
But as per the inputs we are getting he would be coming here anytime between 2 and 3 in the afternoon directly from Shantiniketan, lay the foundation of several developmental projects online from Sindri, fly to Ranchi, hold some meetings there and then return to Delhi," said Dhanbad DDC Kuldeep Chaudhary.
Among the other initiatives like official commencement of the rejuvenation work of two- phased Patratu Thermal Power Station (PTPS) by NTPC with investment of Rs 18,000 crore and laying foundation for 750-beded AIIMS at Devipur of Deoghar with a provision of Rs 1103 crore, the highlight of the visit is going to be overhauling the 'dead asset' Sindri fertilizer plant. "The fertilizer plant was not in production for the last two decades. Now, it will be modernised with the latest technology available to resume production by 2020. The plant is going to be extremely important for the farmers of the State and of the region," said Industry Secretary Sunil Kumar Barnwal.
