The city already reeling under acute power crisis on Tuesday witnessed yet another blow from mother nature as speedy winds and hailstorm disrupted local transmission and forced the Electricity department to stop supplies to many localities of the city for long hours.
The hot and humid weather of Ranchi suddenly took a U -turn on Tuesday evening when speedy winds and hailstorm with rain lowered the temperature. However, the winds at the speed of 63 kmph uprooted many trees and wrenched the braches resulting into faults at various places in the electricity supply lines in the city.
Power supply was cut in several areas including Ratu Road, Morhabadi, Doranda, Hinoo, Chutia, Booti Road, Argora among others since 5 pm till the time of filing of this report.
“The situation is very bad. Almost all areas have complaints of local fault caused due to falling of trees and branches. We are patrolling in the city to correct the faults. Restoration will take place only till late night, it appears,” said Sanjay Kumar, technical Advisor to JUVNl MD, Rahul Purwar.
“We have got information of wire breakage in the area. Two people have been sent for repair at the site. We cannot say how much time it will take to get the fault corrected,” said an official at Ratu Substation.
