A 28-year-old woman was raped and killed near the Marine Drive under Sonari police station area on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Geeta Gorai, was a resident of Nirmal Nagar in Sonari and was reportedly hearing and speech-impaired. Sources informed that the assailant had first raped her and then smashed her with a stone. A rag-picker who was passing through the way spotted the victim’s body first and informed her neighbours. A police party, led by officer-in-charge Sanjiv Kumar, rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent her for post-mortem at MGM Medical College and Hospital.
Kumar informed that the rape will be confirmed after the autopsy report. “It is too early to comment. As of now we are registering a case of murder against the unknown,” he added. One of the relatives of the victim said that Geeta went missing for a while. Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagdish Prasad visited the place and assured of a fast paced interrogation.
