Questioning authenticity of the probe being conducted into the allegations made by a senior official of a private bank against Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Saryu Roy today asked as to how could an agency meant for collecting intelligence inputs regarding anti-national and anti-state activities carried out in the State will be able to do the investigate into the matter.

Talking to media persons at his official residence, he also added that even after a week, he was yet to receive any information related to the probe being carried out in this regard from the Government.

“legal validity of the investigation must also have to be explored before going for any kind of investigation; it should also be explored whether any kind of legal action is possible on the basis of the investigations done against him,” said Roy.

Referring to sudden increase in Cash Deposit Ratio of IndusInd Bank in the State, how did it increase from 240 per cent in September to 273 per cent in December while other banks’ CDR remained limited to 40-60 per cent. “Investigation must also be done whether any promoter or officials of the said bank met with the Government officials during the roadshow in United States.

Talking about show cause notice issued against the Chief Secretary in connection with a fodder scam case for her alleged lapses related to the fodder scam in 1990-91 when she was Deputy Commissioner of West Singhbhum, Roy said that the CBI had not asked the State Government to issue show cause notices to her, rather it had asked the State Government to take action holding her responsible for the irregularity.

The CBI, while probing Case RC 20A/96, had observed that in her capacity as district treasury custodian, Verma did not apprise the accountant-general of gross irregularities and reportedly did not put her signature on audit reports. The CBI court's verdict on this case is expected soon.

“I have asked the State Government to take decision in this regard before her retirement which is due on February 28,” said Roy.

Meanwhile, Roy said that though situation all over the State was better than the last year, efforts made by the State Government towards procurement of paddy crops was not satisfactory as it is yet to take off in some of the areas.

“Situation is worst in Santhal Pargana where only 12 farmers have shown interest in selling their crops to Government agencies in Pakur, 47 in Sahebganj, 86 in Godda and 141 in Dumka,” said Roy. Maximum of 4881 in Hazaribagh and 2598 in Palamu have reached to the Government purchase centers, he added.

Roy said that he will go on a state wide visit from March 5 to look into the matter during which he will spend at least a day and a night in each of the district.
