Speaker to act against Hemlal, Vidyut as Dubey resigns

Sacked Congress Minister Chandrashekher Dubey on Thursday submitted his resignation to the Assembly Speaker and reiterated that the Soren Government did not enjoy support of required MlAs in the House any more.

Dubey resigned from the membership of the House on moral grounds after he quit the Congress and joined the Trinamool Congress. He alleging that the present Government has no right to remain in power as five of its members have already left them putting the Government into danger.

Speaker Shashank Shekhar Bhokta, a JMM man, immediately accepted Dubey’s resignation, and said that action may be taken against Hemlal Murmu and Vidyut Varan Mahto who recently defected from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.

The Speaker however, cleared that since Bandhu Tirkey and Chamra linda were MlAs of independent parties, which got merged with the TMC recently, so anti-defection law does not apply to them. “Moreover, they have given it in writing that they are not withdrawing their support from the government,” said the Speaker.

“Dubey has submitted his resignation to me which has been accepted under the provisions of the Constitution. If someone submits his resignation directly, I will have to accept it,” added the Speaker.

The Speaker said, “Although, I have not yet received any communication from any side against Hemlal Murmu or Vidyut Varan Mahto, I am examining the provisions under the Anti-defection law and will take action against them accordingly.”

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters in Dumka, Chief Minister Hemant Soren played down the threat to his government.  “ I have no lust for the Government. The JMM has formed and toppled several governments in past. So, I am not worried with the MlAs deserting our party or ruling party MlAs switching sides. I can’t say about the government’s fate,  but I can say for sure that there is no threat to me” he maintained.

The BJP, on the other hand, chose to take backseat as the leaders are busy in the poll process.

“Of course, we cannot back-step from our responsibilities and keep silent but since leaders are busy with the preparations of lok Sabha elections, the issue has not yet been discussed among them,” said state BJP spokesperson Pradeep Sinha.

Sinha however, also believes that Soren government does not enjoy support in the house as five of its MlAs have already left it leading the government into minority.

Meanwhile, a meeting among the coalition partners - Congress, RJD and JMM of the JMM led Soren Government at the residence of State Congress President Sukhdeo Bhagat to ensure victory of all the fourteen candidates in the State. A unanimous decision was taken in the meeting to form a coordination committee so that campaigning could be launched for the candidates in an organized way to propagate a positive message in favour of UPA in the State.

Bhagat, while addressing the meeting said that there is no wave in favour of Narendra Modi in the State and the UPA coalition will bag all the fourteen seats in the State.

“If there had been a wave of Narendra Modi, l K Advani would not have demanded lok Sabha candidature from Bhopal though Gandhi Nagar has been his stronghold for years,” said Bhagat.
