Space scarcity is the biggest hurdle for all the city colleges as it is binding them to provide a sports ground for their students to practice. Most of the colleges do not have their own sports ground as a result of which they have to rely on someone else’s facilities. Students are getting bound to join the sports clubs as they are devoid from the ambiance necessary for sports.
Principal of Gossner College, Dr Siddhart kumar Ekka said, “We do not have our own sports ground for students to practice as we do not have enough space within our premises. So students who are interested in sports practice on their own. During university sports season, when inter college sports tournament is organised at that time we seek permission from Mecon to allow our team to practice on their ground. Our team practice there under the supervision of our Physical Training Instructor.”
“Due to lack of resources we are unable to provide the required sports facilities to our students so we try to provide them all the possible help which is within our reach,” he added.
Ranchi College Sports in-charge Dr VV Mahto said, “Earlier we used to have badminton ground within our premises but it has been developed into an auditorium now so we use ground of Zila School and RIMS College to practice sports like cricket, football, and badminton. But sometimes we fail to utilize their ground as they are used by their own students. I had reported to higher authorities relating the issue and had asked them to provide a sports ground within our own premises.”
“Though we cannot provide our sportsperson a playground to practice and a trainer to guide them as our college cannot afford to provide them these facilities due to many reasons which cannot be revealed, so to motivate our sportsperson we provide them other facilities such as free education and scholarship facility,” said lecturer of Women’s College, Vinita Singh.
Deepak Mahato Student of Marwari College who plays cricket at the inter college level said, “I have joined Ranchi club for my practice as I cannot get the required facility in my college. Joining a private club is burning a hole in my pocket. The concerned authority should look into the matter and come up with a better solution soon. There are many other students who are good players but due financial crunch many of them cannot afford to join any club as a result they cannot explore their talent.”
“The administration should take the matter seriously and should make efforts to provide sports facilities within the campus,” said Aditya Pratap, plays inter-college football for Gossner College.
