SP takes strict stand on 'sick' leaves by cops

Published on:

Cops in Palamu know when to feign sick for leave from duty. Once leave is granted the cops who go on leave invariably over stay back in home. This is a very common feature among the constabulary here in this police range of Palamu.

Stung by this feigning of sickness of cops who produce manufactured document for grant of leave, the SP Palamu, YS Ramesh, has asked the cops to refrain from such a habit and practice which Ramesh has maintained is not good for the cops so doing it and for the officials too as this sets off a chain of refusals and denials.

Trust for leave is shattered in such a case where concoction is done for taking leave, he reminded. Overstay by cops mean living on leave not granted to them has become a common ailment plaguing the constabulary. Ramesh wants to put a check to it. Will his honest appeal be able cut any ice with the habitual offenders among the copsIJ

Coercive measures like putting salary on hold, a cut of not granted days on leave in a month’s salary, a black point etc hardly bring out any correctional attitude among the cops said one SI of police If Ramesh has asked cops to take leave on genuine ground which he has assured will never be met with denial, he has also asked them not to go near to Improvised Explosive Device laid or buried by CPI Maoists as many a life of cops has been lost when they tried to handle or mishandle it quite unjustifiably.

“Report me immediately about an IED and then take your own time and discretion to be as safe as possible,” he said. The concern that the 2010 batch IPS officer Ramesh showed recently over the IEDs meant much here as sighting an IED by cops is like getting a jackpot of lottery and any carelessness and inept handling of it could take away life in seconds or so, added another police officer who agreed with Ramesh’s concern that none has any business to deal with IED except the bomb disposal squad.
