The JMM-Congress-RJD alliance government headed by Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday won the vote of trust vote in the House by 48 votes to zero at the time when there is political uncertainty in the State after a disqualification case has erupted against Soren.
The confidence motion was moved by the Soren government with BJP legislators staging a walkout from the House. Before the confidence motion, Chief Minister Soren went all out in targeting BJP alleging that BJP had created a political uncertainty in the State and the confidence motion was necessary.
Targeting the Opposition, Soren said, “The confidence motion was necessary as we need to have the vote of trust but we want to prove our strength in the House. Our best effort is to convince the 3.25 crore people of the State but cannot do much about your (opposition) wishes,” Soren alleged the BJP of trying to poach their MLAs citing that the three Congress MLAs were arrested in Bengal.
The alliance government moved the confidence motion as Governor Ramesh Bais is keeping mum on the office-of-profit case against Soren that could lead to his disqualification. The suspense has made the UPA MLAs tense. There are reports that the Election Commission has sent a letter to Raj Bhawan, which will decide the fate of Soren as a legislator. As there was confusion over the letter, the UPA combine in the past one week has done all things to keep its MLAs intact. The MLAs initially were taken to brief sojourn to Latratu Dam in Khunti district; later UPA MLAs were airlifted to Raipur in a special chartered flight.
The MLAs were kept at Mayfair resort in Raipur. The 32 MLAs on Sunday afternoon reached Ranchi and again they were kept at State Circuit House renovated recently.
On Monday these MLAs reached the House in Buses and were not allowed to speak to media persons before the confidence motion.
Blaming the BJP for the current uncertainty in the State, Soren said that the BJP is yet to digest the fact that the public threw them out of power in 2019 after they did nothing for the poor accept making elephants fly during their rule between 2014 and 2019.
“It was fortunate that we were running the government during the pandemic. We took good care of the backward state. Had they been in power I dread to think what would have been the condition of the poor tribals and dalits in the state,” Soren said.
Soren attacked the BJP government in the Centre saying that Centre is favouring the businessmen but a select group of businessmen and waiving off crores of rupees lent to them.
Soren also blasted the media – national, international, television channels, newspapers and social media for carrying out the Manuvadi propaganda. “I am deeply saddened to see those who should be protecting secularism are actually dividing and polarising the country,” he said, adding that he is a tribal and son of a revolutionary and would not buckle under the pressure tactics of the BJP. The Chief Minister also predicted that the BJP is going to be wiped out in 2024.
