This season looking at skyrocketing prices of common commodities, especially vegetables, middle class families have decided to keep their weddings are simple way with limited items.
Ramesh Bhumiya who is getting married next month said, “Everyone wants to make their once in life event memorable and wedding means variety of food but this price hike of common commodities has made a bigger hole in my pocket. My reception menu contains limited item.”
Another groom said, “Earlier in my wedding menu different types of cuisine was added but when the caterer presented me the budget it was coming around Rs 2 lakhs. This was hampering my wedding budget to a great extend. To maintain the budget I reshuffled my menu and now it contains only Indian thali and desert.”
Sudden surge in prices of vegetables have increased the price almost all vegetables. Vegetable Jalfrezi, matar grating, navratan korma, Kadai paneer which use to be compulsory items in a wedding menu is now replaced with rajma, different varieties of dal and Dahi item.
A caterer Ajay Khanna said, “This time looking at the soaring price of food people are going for limited items. Chinese and continental which use to be essential item in wedding menu have now been removed from the menu. Demand of items likes Dahi vada, raita and, rajma has increased as the price of these items is quite low in comparison to that of vegetables.”
According to Nitish Palak who is in catering business from past ten years said that in weddings people use to add more items to their menu but this year people are found curtailing their menu. Earlier if one uses to have 20 items in their reception menu then this year it is just the half. People are going for necessity than to luxury.
