Two motorcycle ridden criminals snatched Rs6.5 lakh from lalmoti Shahdeo on Saturday some time after he withdrew the stolen amount from a bank in Pandra. While escaping the scene, the robbers fell in a ditch near Sundil, where they left their vehicle and fled with the money.

Superintendent of Police (City) Kishor Kaushal, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Kotwali) Anshuman Kumar and police officials from Pandra police outpost arrived at the scene and began investigations. The motorcycle left by the fleeing robbers has also been seized by police.

After withdrawing the money from the bank, lalmoti, a contractor by profession, briefly stopped by a cement retail outlet.

As he was turning his car, with the money bag kept in the front passenger seat and the adjoining window half open, the robbers came speeding on their motorcycle and nabbed the bag.

“They had been following me from the bank only. On checking the bank’s CCTV footage, it was seen that they were present there for long and were watching the customers. I tried to chase them but was unsuccessful in catching them,” lalmoti said.

Also, the motorcycle used by the culprits, and now with the police, might also prove insufficient in tracing their whereabouts. The vehicle has an Odisha registration number and might very well be stolen, sources said. As of now, investigators are trying to ascertain the identity of the owner of the vehicle on the basis of engine and chassis numbers.
