lesliganj police have nabbed a habitual and professional drug peddler Anthony Kumar with 700 grams of ready to use opium last night.
Officer-in-charge of lesliganj police station Rana Jung Bahadur Singh and his team nabbed Anthony with Anuj Kumar, but one named Afsar Raza alias Afsar Akram managed to escape. OC lesliganj said Anthony has been to jail in the past ludhiana on the same charge of smuggling opium from Palamu to ludhiana.
Anthony said that it is Afsar Raza who is the main villain. Anuj Kumar echoed the same and reiterated that he is a NYK cadre (Nehru Yuva Kendra) and is involved in NIC (National Integration Camp) too.
Police officer disbelieved the versions of Anthony and Anuj Kumar saying they are too well versed in smuggling opium from here to ludhiana. lesliganj police seized a bike on which these three were riding and were on way to Daltonganj.
DSP Prem Nath said police got a tip off about these three last night and accordingly an interception was laid at Jagatpurwa on Panki Daltonganj road wherein seeing police Afsar Raza fled from getting down the bike while these two Anthony and Anuj Kumar were overpowered and from one bag the police recovered this 700 grams of opium concealed in clothes kept in the bag. Sources said migrant labourers from Palamu are not migrating empty handed. A good number of them are carrying contraband goods like opium and doda. This enables them to get good money in the drug market of Punjab and ludhiana .
The two have been remanded in judicial custody on Thursday December 7.
