The country’s first ever e-court of its kind created history on Thursday, as it pronounced judgement in one of the country’s most high profile cases involving two former Chief Ministers of Bihar as well as other politicians and bureaucrats. Sentencing in the much talked about fodder scam case went on smoothly without any glitches where 37 convicted in 17-year-old fodder scam case was done by the special CBI court of PK Singh.

Swift delivery of judgement was made possible due to the facility of appearance of convicts thorough video conferencing provided by the e-court.

Although the court has been set up for speedy trial of all sorts of cases, sentence of 37 convicted persons in the fodder scam case was pronounced on Thursday keeping security reasons into consideration. “This was done to avoid any disturbances during the sentencing of the convicts involving several politicians,” said advocate Abhishek Bharti.

The judgment was pronounced in a mere period of 27 minutes which went on from 2:10pm -2:37 pm.

“Sentences were pronounced in the court while all the 37 convicted persons remained in jail. It saved a lot of time, money and energy,” said a Bharti. We had never thought of such facility in our life, he added. The proceedings went on smoothly without any disturbance.

“If it was done in the regular court, it would have been taken a lot of time. Administration was also relieved as they did not have to control the crowd which was expected to gather if so many high profile politicians had come to the court for sentencing,” Bharti added.

The e-court was inaugurated on September 21 by Supreme Court judge MB lokur at Ranchi civil court premises.
