Following Jharkhand High Court judgment ordering Tata Steel and its wholly owned subsidiary, Jusco, to give water and power connections to 106 slums — 86 under Schedule V of Tata lease, the residents of the slum areas greeted local MlA Raghubar Das for playing a key role for fighting for the cause of slum dwellers. Das was garlanded during a function organised at Bhuiyandih Durga Puja maidan.
The high court had passed the order based on a PIl filed by Chandrashekhar Mishra, president of basti Vikas Samiti — an umbrella organisation of 86 slums — on May 18 this year.
Patron of basti Vikas Samiti Das, who played that the decision is victory of the people and we will make sure that the corporate house follows the decision. The Basti Vikas Samity, an organisation fighting for the cause of the slum dwellers, which has been demanding ownership rights of the slums, has welcomed the decision.
