Former Congress minister Yogendra Sao facing a number of criminal cases has landed in yet another controversy after he was found misusing special permission granted by the jail department to visit AIIMS for better treatment of his eyes related problem.
Ranchi SSP Surendra Kumar Jha on Thursday suspended six police personnel of Ranchi district police for dereliction of duty.
“An ASI and five constables have been suspended and an inquiry has been instituted against them. Sao who is under judicial custody had sought permission to visit AIIMS in Delhi for treatment of his eye released disease. Since he is an undertrial hence an ASI rank official and five constables were deputed for security and to ensure that Sao follows jail manual. But the contrary happened. These policemen allowed him to move freely,” said sources in Ranchi police.
Sao left for Delhi under police escort on August 30 for treatment and returned to Birsa Munda Central Jail on October 1. But instead of getting admitted at AIIMS he stayed at a private lodge. Even it is not sure whether he got any treatment at AIIMS.
During his stay in Delhi he frequently visited his friends and relatives. Besides, he was also involved in political activities. He is said to have visited Punjab and Haryana also. Ranchi SSP started inquiry after getting information about Sao violating jail manual and cops on duty allowed him to do so and enjoyed hospitality arranged by Sao.
This is not the first case where Sao violated jail manual and jumped bail.
In April last year the Supreme Court had cancelled the bail granted to him in December 2017 in different criminal cases. Court had directed him to stay in Bhopal and he must not make any unauthorised visit to Jharkhand.
But on a number of occasions he visited Jharkhand. They were allowed to visit Jharkhand only for court hearings under police protection after intimidating the Bhopal superintendent of police. The Jharkhand government had told the court that out of 260 days, Sao had been in Jharkhand for more than 150 days without any permission.
