Despite claims by the police that efforts are on to arrest the political leaders like Rama Khalkho and Sita Soren, the accused leaders are able to keep on evading arrests and exploring the legal options to protect from dragnet of law.

“We are trying our best to arrest them, as soon as they will be arrested we will report it to the court,” said State DGP Rajeev Kumar. “What political pressure could be there at this point when there is President’s rule in the StateIJ Efforts are definitely on to nab them and we expect that they will be arrested soon,” added the DGP.

The Jharkhand High Court passing a strict order on April 15 had instructed the state Home Secretary and DGP to arrest JMM legislator Sita Soren within three weeks’ time or appear personally before the court with explanations. Soren has been evading arrests since December 25 last year after an FIR was lodged against her at Argora Police station.

Soren is accused of allegedly kidnapping her former personal assistant Vikas Pandey with the help of two bodyguards near Sahjanand Chowk at Harmu Housing Colony under Argora Police station on December 24.

Rama Khalkho has been absconding after a case was registered against her on April 7 at the lalpur Police station following recovery of around Rs21.9 lakh a day ahead of the Mayoral elections. Ironically, businessman Niranjan Sharma and his aide Sudheer Kumar Sahu are lodged in jail since April 7 in the same case.

Khalkho, along with senior Congress leaders was caught on the CCTV camera during a raid conducted by the Ranchi police where Rs21.9 lakh was seized from a hotel room.

The money was allegedly to be distributed among the party workers for influencing voters in her favour.

‘We have applied for warrant of proclamation against Khalkho as we have not been able to trace her till date,’ said City DSP PN Singh who is also the investigating officer in this case. The City DSP admitted that as they have wider contacts across the country hence, they succeed in hiding themselves.
