The six-day long fiesta of silk and handicraft, Kuchai Silk Expo, began in Ranchi on Thursday. Industries Secretary Himani Pandey inaugurated the exhibition.
Artisans and weavers specialising in silk from Bihar, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Jammu Kashmir with their artwork in silk and handcrafted home décor items occupied the 40 stalls for visitors to marvel at and purchase.
“To advertise Kuchai silk from Seraikela Kharsawan and artisans working on it, to prepare a better market for them and lastly to provide a platform where they can learn from artisans and designers of other states about the recent trends and styles,” informed Jharkhand General Manager (Operations) B.C. Pandey.
He further added, “We have invited various organisations working in silk trade across the nation. Co-Optex from Tamil Nadu is one of them; we have an MoU signed between us dictating that we will market their merchandise and they will market ours. Similarly, Boyanika from Orissa is an organisation with a vast network working in the field of textile trade participating in the Expo.”
Sarees, dress materials, attire, home furnishing and other items of silk have been put up at the Expo.
