Aspirants for Sub Inspectors’ post in the State gathered in quite a number at Morabadi ground Wednesday to stage protest against the recruitment norms of State government. The aspirants conducted a ‘Maha Mundan’ where approximately 60 students shaved their heads. They said that the State government should consider the cut-off-date from August 1, 2010 rather than the current date.
Notably, the SI examination is being conducted after a gap of seven years; the first examination was conducted in 2008. Citing several irregularities in conducting different competitive examination, the group of students opined that due to State government’s irrational approach towards recruitment process, students were deceived. Some students even said that in an attempt to provide benefits to a group of people, intentionally such regulations are drafted by the State government.
“The State government is not serious about the recruitment. Thousands of seats have been lying vacant in several departments since long. Moreover, the government is also breaching the reservation regulation of the Central government,” said, Student leader, Manoj Yadav who accompanied the protesters and lead the protesting.
“Taking examples from the competitive examinations conducted in past, none of the examinations whether it is Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), Staff Service Commission (SSC), Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) have been conducted fairly or even annually by the State Government,” added Yadav.
The protesters said that the age relaxation has been altered as per the SI recruitment advertisement notice. This year, the age limit for general category students is 26 year while for other backward castes (OBCs) and Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes (SCs/STs), the department has set 28 and 30 years respectively. Previously, the age relaxation was 35, 38 and 40 for general, OBC, SC/ST candidates respectively.
On the other hand clarifying the stance of the State government on recruitment process, Department of Home, Prison and Disaster Management issued a clarification notice clearly stating that age relaxation was given after the order of Jharkhand High Court (HC) in 2008 and it was merely for one time. The communiqué also stated that looking at the physical fitness of the candidates which is a prerequisite in getting employment in police service it is difficult to give much age relaxation under any category
