With continuous showers and maximum temperature also being recorded below normal, the weather in May is like a silver lining during the ongoing pandemic.
“A cyclonic circulation extending upto 0.9 Km above mean sea level is present. In this system, there is not much rainfall activity but more of thunderstorms. This is part of the Kal Baisakhi which is normal for this time of the year,” said Deputy Director, MET Centre Ranchi, Abhishek Anand.
As per the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi light to moderate showers are expected in most parts of the State till May 20. Parts of north east, central and south Jharkhand may witness light showers along with thunderstorm and lighting on May 15. Isolated places in north east, central as well as south east Jharkhand are likely to receive light rainfall with thunderstorm activity on May 16 and May 17. Scattered places in the north east, southern and central Jharkhand are also likely to witness light to moderate showers on May 18 and May 19.
As per the weathermen, an increase in the rainfall activity is likely to occur from May 20 onwards.
“A low pressure system is forming over south east Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea. It is likely to concentrate into a Depression over central parts of south Bay of Bengal on May 15 and further intensify into a cyclonic storm over the same region by May 16. Chances are it could move north and northwestwards. Because of this, rainfall activity is likely to increase on May 20 and May 21,” added the official.
Because of continuous showers and thunderstorm activity over the State during the past week, the maximum and minimum temperature was recorded below normal. The maximum temperature was observed in the range of 33 to 40 degree Celsius where as the minimum temperature was between 18 to 26 degree Celsius.
From May 15 to May 21, the maximum temperature is likely to be normal to above normal and lie in the range of 34- 41 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature is also likely to be normal to above normal and will lie in the range of 22 to 27 degree Celsius.
“It could be a little hot during the first half of the day while the second half is likely to be more pleasant.
The maximum temperature around the State capital will be around 36- 37 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature in north east Jharkhand will be around 39 while parts of north west and south will be around 41 degree Celsius,” said Anand.
