Show 'fake' notes to ATM's CCTV: RBI

Published on:

Slapped with a suspicious or fake currency at ATMIJ No need to worry. Just record the ‘currency’ in the CCTV camera installed at the ATM and then report the matter to the respective bank to exchange it with the legitimate one without any hassle!

The RBI’s Regional Director MK Verma suggested the idea considering growing number of incidents that often put the ATMs visitors in a catch-22 situation. “Such cases come. If one records the note suspicious in nature to the CCTV he can save his money as well as from getting into any legal trouble.” The Banks do not entertain bearers’ claim about fake  currency in such situations.

Verma also brushed aside the complaints about shortage of coins and said that the RBI has the metal in its possession more than a train-full.

“Even banks have sufficient amount of coins with them. We have also

instructed for organising coin melas for the convenience of customers and have linked post offices for the purpose,” said the RD.
