Shortage of doctors affects health services in Jharkhand

Published on:

Amid plenty, Jharkhand is facing acute dearth of manpower. A crunch in manpower in all sectors, has now become a full-blown crisis, said K Vijay Kumar, the advisor to Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmed.

Kumar was talking to the mediapersons at Bokaro Niwas on Sunday. He rushed to Bokaro on Saturday night to meet senior officers, stressed on effective implementation of developmental projects. Admitting acute dearth of doctors and other medical staff, Kumar stressed on the need of strict implementation of NRHM across the State.

It’s worth mentioning that, even after a decade of formation, Jharkhand’s common citizens are deprived of the  basic facilities like health services even. The doctors and nurses are conspicuous by their shortage, not only in the primary health centres located across the State but also in the big Government hospitals of the cities.

According to the rough estimate, Jharkhand has shortage of about 7,000 doctors. As far as specialist doctors are concerned, the situation is even more glaring; the State having shortage of more that 70 specialists till date, sources said.
