State BJP spokesperson, Pratul Shahdeo, has strongly objected to the Latehar police’s decision to withdraw security cover provided to him ahead of parliamentary elections in State. Shahdeo, based on intelligence and police inputs of having threat from Left Wing Extremism (LWE) groups and anti-national forces, was given security cover. However, the Latehar police on March 25 issued a letter asking the security personnel protecting Shahdeo to join training for Lok Sabha polls.
Shahdeo, who is media in-charge of BJP for Chatra, Lohardaga and Palamu parliamentary constituency, has written a letter to Latehar police protesting withdrawal of security cover. Shahdeo in his letter to Latehar SP stated that on several occasions both verbally and through letters he had informed the Latehar police about the threat he faces from LWE and anti-national forces.
Sahdeo said, “As I have been appointed as the media in-charge of BJP for three parliamentary constituencies, Chatra, Lohardaga and Palamau, I have to visit rural areas falling under these constituencies for taking stock of BJP poll preparations. As these constituencies’ falls under list of LWE affected districts, there is always a threat on my life.”
The BJP spokesperson in a letter to Latehar police has also attached the letter of Special Branch where the Special Branch had written a letter to Latehar police on March 16, urging the Latehar police to provide security cover to Shahdeo as he faces life threat from LWE groups. Shahdeo one of the vocal spokespersons in State BJP is always in news attacking opposition polices at the same time taking stand of Government. Ever since election dates were announced Shahdeo is camping in Chatra, Lohardaga and Palamau taking stock of poll preparations.
The Latehar district police had issued the letter withdrawing security cover to Shahdeo on the grounds that ahead of parliamentary elections, the Latehar district administration has to carry out training programme of security forces which is mandatory for all security personnel.
