Several members of panchayat and ward counsellors would be elected unopposed in different blocks of district that have to go to poll in the first phase of panchayat elections .
The names of elected unopposed would be declared only after the last date of withdrawing names ends .
According to an available report in Eastern Tundi block 49 ward members out of the 112 wards for which nominations were held have been selected unopposed as they have no opponents . In the remaining seats since there are more than one candidate, elections would be held as scheduled.
Similarly , in Topchanchi block 104 ward members out of 326 have been selected unopposed due to aforementioned circumstances.
Here it's worth mentioning that all the three blocks including Topchanchi, Tundi and eastern Tundi happen to be naxal infested blocks sharing it's board with Dumri and Pirtand blocks of Giridih district that happens to be a good hideout of Naxal commanders .
Most of the panchayats where only one nomination was filed fall in those areas .
