The campaigning period before the civic elections on April 7 has brought a pre-poll menace to Hazaribagh - loudspeakers. While election campaigning is meant to urge candidates, the common people are being bludgeoned by giant loudspeakers playing songs from morning to night.
Seven vehicles have been seized, which also include one of Anjali Kumari, who is contesting for the post of chairman. Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Manoj Kaushik was annoyed with the sheer volumes and on April 2, he, DSP Satish Jha and officer in-charge Dinesh Kumar Singh identified vehicles playing songs above the standard volume.
The police followed the offending vehicles and warned them of legal action. Kaushik made it clear that strict action would be taken against those not following the law.
During the past two days, the SP and his team have kept an eye on erring vehicles.
The Sadar Circle Officer said these vehicles were using sound equipment of very high volume in the whole town.
April 5 being the last day for such vehicles, candidates will now go door-to-door to convince voters in the last two days to the election. Candidates contesting for the post of chairman have already covered a wide area canvassing personally.
Meanwhile, Kaushik also checked the traffic system, visiting all the squares and telling traffic police to pay more attention during polls as the roads have become more congested.
