The Union Minister of State for Defence and Ranchi MP, Sanjay Seth, has strongly criticized the Jharkhand government and the district administration over the eviction of a settlement inhabited for years by poor families near DPS Ranchi.
Seth said that the insensitive and oppressive Jharkhand government is forcibly demolishing the homes of poor families and pushing them onto the streets. Evicting families, including young children, during the rainy season is inhumane and deeply unfortunate.
He said that many of these families have been living there for several decades. If the administration has compelling reasons to remove them, it should first make proper arrangements for their rehabilitation and provide suitable alternative housing. Leaving families under the open sky in the middle of the monsoon is not befitting of any compassionate government.
The Minister of State for Defence urged the Jharkhand government and the administration to immediately halt the eviction drive. He called on the government to show a humane face and understand the suffering of these poor families. He also warned that such arbitrary action to forcibly evict the poor would not be tolerated.
Seth further said that no government has the right to deprive poor people of their homes in the name of development. According to him, the just and humane approach is to ensure proper rehabilitation and resettlement first, and only then proceed with any eviction.
