A two-day seminar on the tribal development in India: issue and challenge started here on Monday in GTB Hall. The seminar is being sponsored by UGC and organised by department of psychology of JS college in collaboration with the GlA college. The chief guest of the first session, Retired Justice of the Jharkhand High Court Ranchi, DP Singh said, “There is a strong need to safeguard the interest of the tribal as in the name of development their life style, food habit, habitat cannot be invaded or eroded.”
The retired justice reminded that country like Switzerland has a protective cover of the tribal living in that country. Here in the name of mines opening, building of dams these people’s interests are not well taken care of. A noted lawyer of Jharkhand High Court Manoj Tandon who came from Ranchi on Monday to grace the occasion pleaded for amendment in the CNT Act to make it a real beneficial legislation as the lawyer charged that there is hardly any benefit for the tribal as these innocent people are taken for a ride.
Tandon said 66 seats in the medical colleges here remained vacant as suitable tribal students were not found. The lawyer wanted relaxation for them. He wanted political will to better the condition of the tribals. The chairperson of the two-day seminar AN Ojha, the VC of the NP University said the tribal boys and girls must shun their complex feelings.
Ojha said these people suffer from a sense of un connectedness which must go. He then asked the tribal students to learn English. He said their condition will not improve unless concrete solutions to their issues and problems are not suggested by the scholars as seminar and symposium hardly saves or betters any condition. ‘Come with concrete solution and do not cite problems only’ he asked the researchers there.
The head of the Jan Jatiya Bhasha vibhag of RU Ranchi Ganajhu also attended the first day of the 2-day seminar here. Two college teachers Dharmender K Singh and Kumar Birender of JS college and GlA college respectively carried the seminar forward.
