Chief Minister Raghubar Das said on Saturday that his Government believed that promoting self realisation of avoiding liquor was more effective tool than an imposed liquor ban by State Government.
Speaking during the Gareeb Kalyan Mela organised to distribute assets worth over Rs 340 crore through various departments among the poor, Das said the Gvernment had started dozens of programmes during last 1,000 days, which were proud firsts in country and that the Gvernment was committed to eliminate poverty from State by the year 2022.
“Consumption of liquor or any kind of intoxicating substance is a curse. But I strongly believe that it can’t be eradicated through an imposed ban. Social awareness is needed in order to get rid of it and once it happens, society will automatically become addiction-free. This is why the Government has decided to award Rs 1,00,000 to addiction-free village,” said Das where chief guest of the programme and BJP national president Amit Shah was also present.
Gareeb Kalyan Mela witnessed distribution of 6,500 gas connections, 16,000 soil health cards, 200 fish credit cards, 1,000 agriculture insurance claims, cows to 200 BPl women at 90 per cent Government grants, 1,000 e-PoS machines to banking correspondents, 1,000 pump sets, 6,000 Mudra Yojna loans, 8,000 smartphones to Sakhi Mandals and few of other benefits to related department beneficiaries on the day.
“The Government has tried to uplift lifestyle of villages, the poor, Adivasis, suppressed, exploited and those left behind so far. The Government will continue keeping its treasure wide open for welfare of those who need it the most,” said Das. Citing examples in achievements through Jan Dhan Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Beema Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Jeewan Jyoti Yojna, Stand-Up India, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojna, Ujjwala Yojna in which Jharkhand is the only State to provide gas Stove along with loaded lPG cylinder, Pradhan Manti Fasal Beema Yojna and dozens of others, the CM said that all of them brought tremendous change in life of the poor and downtrodden in State during last 1,000 days.
Shah said, on the occasion, that development oriented steps taken by CM Das were examples of how development could be brought to the poor within 1,000 days. “The Government is reaching out to the poor and it is a remarkable change in State.
The Government has been constantly and consistently working to uplift the poor under guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said Shah, where State Cabinet Ministers, Jharkhand BJP MPs, MlAs and others were also present.
“Jharkhand was created by one charismatic Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee under BJP rule and is now being taken to another height by visionary Prime Minister Narendra Modi under same BJP rule with 8.6 per cent SGDP, only behind Gujrat in entire country,” said Shah who took lunch along with the CM in a Dalit’s house. Shah sat with Cabinet Ministers and MPs later to discuss various issues of before government and organisation before meeting with intellectuals of the city in the evening on second day of his three day visit of the State.
Opening the Mela, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Saryu Roy who has remained critical to the government at times, said that economic development was successful only when it also brought happiness in soul and smile on the lips of people and government was trying the same.
