A posse of police force has been stationed at village lokyaa in Chainpur police station, said SP Palamu Indrajeet Mahatha, who said the deployment had been done in wake of eruption of distrust and discontent between the two communities there.
The SP said the discontent was over the passage to a temple site. The site is located on a chunk of land. He said that the site was of one decimal while a cemetery is of 30 decimal on the same chunk of land. Majority community has now demanded a clear passage to the site as till now the passage to the temple site is via cemetery.
Some villagers said, “The majority community believes that festive functions like marriage, birth of a child spurs visit to the temple site but passing through a cemetery in order to reach the temple site is too awkward and repulsive.”
The minority community contests that land for passage to temple site cannot be given as any passage will mean riding or walking down the land of cemetery where beneath the earth are buried people.
Sources said the issue is being boiled by politicians. Chainpur has an old history of communal discontent. However SP Palamu said, “I have asked both the sides to stay cool and calm as this issue of raasta is purely a civil administration affair and nothing should be done to mess it up or to give any colour.”
He said police would act tough if the two sides continue to see red at each other. Sources said SP Palamu had a word with the sitting and the former MlAs of this place urging them to see that communities do not over blow this issue.
SP hinted that SDO has been alerted for initiating section 107 Cr PC against the elements of both the communities if they fail to listen to reasoning.
