Scrap shop fire spurs admin into action

Published on:

Disturbed by the massive fire at a scrap shop near Kutchery chowk continuing for the past two days despite efforts put up by the fire brigade teams, the district administration has decided to conduct the survey of all the places of public concerns and measure their fire safety.

Ranchi Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ameet Kumar said that the owner of the shop where the fire caught had been asked to vacate the place and issued notice under Section 133 of Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC).

The capital city, of late, seems to have become much prone to fires like the ones that erupted in the ‘illegal’ scrap shop recently. There are many such scrap shops in the city. Also there are many illegal dump yards where all sorts of inflammable items are thrown nonchalantly.

These things make the city vulnerable to the fire. And vulnerability of the city to the fire is evident from the fact that the same scrap shop that had caught the fire recently had been gutted at four

occasions earlier.

The administration has taken action against the owner of the shop and the fury because of the fire might

result in some tough actions against all the defaulters who make city’s public places prone to fire.

The SDM said that administration would conduct a public survey of all such places which were frequented by the public. “Their fire safety and preparedness will be ascertained,” he said.

The Ranchi Municipal Corporation also seems to have been jolted to action after the incident.

According to the RMC PRO Naresh Kumar Sinha, the corporation had asked the ward jamadars to carry out the survey of all the dump yards and scrap shop owners and find out how many of them have got legitimate licences to keep their shop running.

The ward jamadars will file their survey report of such places within a week.

“We have still not decided the quantum of punishment to be awarded to the defaulters. let the report come and then we will decide how we are going to deal with them,” the PRO said.
