School authorities plan extra classes to manage syllabus

Considering the scorching heat and its hazardous consequences, school timing of both the private and government schools has been changed with immediate effect and the classes of all schools till class eight have been suspended from April 28. The decision was taken by the School Education and literacy Department on Tuesday.

A circular issued by the department Secretary mentioned that all schools will be closed for summer vacation break from May 8 till further notification. Apart this, the school timing for class 9 to 12 has been rescheduled and classes will be conducted from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM till May 8 whereas it has been clearly instructed that the classes of junior and primary wing upto class 8 will be suspended from April 28.

The early summer vacation break, though have brought a sigh of relief to both school goers and parents but on the other hand school administration have been overburdened and are adopting various measures to complete the annual syllabus for all sections in the stimulated timeframe.

Daytime temperature in almost all the districts is spooling in forties, which is five degrees above the normal on an average in the month of April with no sign of plunge in the temperature in the coming weeks too.

All the schools across the state are wrapping up early so that students do not bear the brunt of the midday sun while returning home, but the pressure not to compromise with jam-packed academic calendar remains the same with all school boards.

From cutting down on activity classes to organizing  extra classes, to squeezing the periods, schools across the city are trying out different strategies to ensure that the crunched summer timings do not affect the annual syllabus, especially of the senior wings.

Manohar lal, principal of CBSE affiliated, Guru Nanak School in Ranchi, mentioned that they will now run the school even on designated days listed for holidays. “For completing annual syllabus 220 days have been allotted. This time we are planning to cut short the winter vacation and school will remain open on second Saturdays. Presently, we have constricted the periods to 30 minutes against the regular 40 minutes and has directed subject teachers to plan their subject accordingly to cover maximum portion,” pointed out lal.

Similarly, Samita Sinha, principal, Surendra Nath Centenary Pubic School, said, “We are going to reopen the school one week earlier, this time. The school management has rescheduled the entire academic session. As per the requirement extra classes will be held for senior wings.”
