The Wildlife Institute of India Dehradun has informed the Palamu tiger reserve management about the tiger's scat in this reserve.
Sources said the tiger reserve management had sent 15 samples of scat to the Wildlife Institute of India Dehradun for their genetic analysis.
Chief conservator of forest and field director tiger reserve Palamu Kumar Ashutosh said the Wild Life Institute of India Dehradun has intimated that two samples of scat have shown it to be of tiger. Nine samples of scat were found to be of leopards. Four samples of scat were discarded just because of their waste.
The chief conservator of forest and field director tiger reserve Palamu Kumar Ashutosh said we understand apart from these 2 tigers, we can afford to have few more here in the PTR.
However, there is one mystery. No proof of kill of the tiger is found in PTR. Tigers prey and leave the kill behind after relishing it for a maximum of 2 to 3 days.
There is also no report of the movement of the tiger. If a villager sees a leopard he makes big noises. And how come the tiger is sighted in all silence by the villagers. Again the tiger does not come either in the camera traps also.
The field director said we are also trying to find out the kill or its left over. He said he has asked the ground staff to look for any sign in the jungles that allude to the tiger or to its presence etc.
Sources said when a tiger walks in the jungles, the other petty wild life like monkeys, langurs etc herald its presence by making every type of noises like that of fearful noise or noise of excitement.
