The Supreme Court on Monday refused to grant bail to the former Minister Ainosh Ekka, accused in a case related to the murder of a para teacher Manoj Kumar in Simdega. A division bench, headed by Justice Dipak Misra, refused to grant Ekka bail, after keeping in view the fact and circumstances that the matter was pending for trial in a Jharkhand sessions court.
“We are not inclined to give bail to the accused at this stage,” said SC in its order.
Ekka had moved the SC for bail on the ground of his deteriorating health conditions. In his bail application, he said that he had nothing to do in the case and accused police of intentionally dragging his name in it. Opposing his bail application, the counsel of the State Government said that they have substantial evidences of his involvement in the case and if granted bail, he might influence the investigation process by bullying the witnesses. Following the hearing, the SC turned down his bail application.
The apex court, however, asked the Jharkhand sessions Court to conduct the murder trial expeditiously in a time-bound manner. Ekka is accused of murdering the Para-Teacher Manoj Kumar on November 26, 2014.
