Admitting not to have worked much in providing cushion against drought to the children of Jharkhand, ‘Save the Children’ is all set to kick start special drive in this direction. The international organisation working in the field of child protection and their rehabilitation for nearly 100 years would start assessment process in the State in the days to come.

“We have not done much against natural disaster like drought in Jharkhand. It has not been our focus area. But now we have paid attention to it. Save the Children is about to start assessment of drought and identify vulnerable areas in the State protect millions of children from malnutrition,” said Mahadev Hansda, State Coordinator of the organisation in a media interaction on Tuesday.

He also added that besides dealing with lack of water, most part of the State particularly the villages would be exposed against unhygienic water supply during monsoons which exposes children the most to the waterborne diseases.

Speaking about child trafficking, for which the State is quite notorious Hansda counted on various reasons behind. “Dropout rate of adolescent in schools is very high which exposes them to trafficking as well as the naxals punching on them. Also, we have found that nexus of traffickers are very strong along with lopsided response from Government machineries,” said Hansda.

Also present on the occasion was Ray Kancharla, National CCR Manager of the organisation, who explained about the strategy of Save the Children in creating mechanism in Jharkhand which is in the high risk zone for children. He also called for support of the media in bringing attention to the cause.
