In protest against the delay in the commissioning of Mango Drinking Water Project former MlA of Jamshedpur West Saryu Roy has written to CM Jharkhand Hemant Soren.
He said that the work must be fulfilled before fixing date to inaugurate the Mango Drinking Water Project at Mango.
“The Government must accord technical sanction to the scheme of laying 118 km long pipelines in different localities of the Mango Notified Area. Make available the amount of Rs. 24 crores approximately estimated to carry out the scheme from contingency fund or from supplementary budgetary allocations. If the Chief Minister, Jharkhand is keen to inaugurate the scheme he should take personal interest to get this jinxed scheme completed as soon as possible. Otherwise people of Mango will not allow the half baked scheme to be inaugurated by any one,” he noted.
The Mango project — aiming to supply 48 million litres per day — started in 2005 as a public-private partnership between state drinking water and sanitation department and Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco. At present, against a demand for over six million litres of water a day, three lakh Mango residents receive less than a third, that is, less than two million litres.
The project has missed a number of deadlines. The initial completion date was August 2011. Since then, it has failed to meet several deadlines — December 2011, September 2012, December 2012, January 2013, April 2013, December 2013 and June 30, 2014.
