Sari gets space in Khadi stores, unisex kurtas too

Taking a big leap in the history of Khadi products in the State, Jharkhand State Khadi and Village Industries Board has for the first time added sari in its product basket from Saturday.

Board Chairman Sanjay Seth said today that the Board would be inaugurating a two-day Khadi Sari Mahotsav in its premises at Ratu Road on Saturday, scheduled to be inaugurated by the State government’s spokesperson Nidhi Khare.

Not only Saris, the Board has also launched unisex designer Kurta range called Vichar-Vastra designed by internationally acclaimed Indian designer Ritu Beri. This spring-summer special kurta has been priced at Rs. 1,299 onwards specially focusing college-going youth. Yet again, the Board had launched women’s jacket range at Rs. 1,500 onwards and stoles range at Rs. 2,000, men’s party wear range starting little below Rs. 5,000 and designer fancy jackets starting from Rs. 1,500 in the State, which are exclusively prepared at Board’s Ratu Road premises.“We were missing Sari at our store counters, as it was not in our product basket yet, which kept a huge customer base out of the Khadi stores so far. This is why we have brought different kinds of Saris manufactured in Jharkhand itself at store racks. We are launching this product in Mahotsav, after which it would be made available to all 15 Khadi stores across the State in phased manner,” said Seth.

Riding on the bandwagon of cashless Jharkhand campaign, the Board has said that the products at the Mahotsav would be available to be purchased by any mode of transaction including mobile e-wallets and credit/debit cards.

The Saris which Jharkhand State Khadi and Village Industries Board, also popularly known as Khadi Board is going to launch from Saturday are all made and manufactured in Jharkhand itself by local artisans and weavers. The entire product basket in the Sari has been manufactured at Bagahiya in Godda district.

Seth said that as of now, only silk Saris with Madhubani print, Balucherry print and a few others were kept on offing and new categories would be added soon as they appeared ready to be hanged in the store for sale. These are priced at Rs. 2,000-6,000 and are available at a discount, majorly flat 25 per cent for the time being.

Seth claimed that the induction of Sari as a product in the State was much appreciated during his meeting with Khadi and Village Industries Commission Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena.

“He asked us to supply the Saris made by local artisans, which could be further supplied to across India at Khadi stores. Once we launch it successfully throughout the State, we would be supplying it pan-India,” said Seth. The Board is also organising 22-day mega event Khadi Saras Mela starting from December 17 in Morhabadi Ground in the city.
