When it comes to deal with a terrorist on border or at any hideout in border areas, guns and bullets become the language for armymen. But when it comes to deal with civil society, a different kind of approach and utmost patience is required. This is what retired Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) jawans who are ready to get inducted into TOPs to be established across city have been taught about in a three day training programme which kicked off in New Police line on Thursday.
Senior police officials are giving training to some 100 retired SAP Jawans, who have already been selected for more than one and a half dozen of new TOPs to be established in the city for improving beat policing and to have a better rapport with citizens. “These are Jawans who have worked in completely different scenario. They have gunned down the terrorists during their previous job, have dealt with Maoists and have been part of tough operations. So, they don’t need any training as far as physical training is concerned, because they are better than regular police persons in terms of physical fitness,” said City Deputy SP Shambhu Nath Singh.
Singh is among those officials who will be giving training to these Jawans on Thursday and Friday also. Sergeant Major at Police line TK Jha and SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi also gave tips to Jawaans on Thursday. The Jawans will be deployed in TOPs to look after the beats. Singh said that TOPs at Morabadi and Kadru have already come into existence and rest was under process. He added that each TOP would have 4-5 beats.
“We are giving training to them of modus operandi of Police which is different from that of an Army man. They have to know about what the role of police happens to be in society, what is the meaning of beat, what are the ways of interaction with people. And after all, they have to have understanding of crowd psychology at the time of conflicts in society, which is completely different with that of conflict at boarders. We are giving training to them on these lines itself,” said Jha.
