Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth on Sunday laid the foundation stone for construction of a shed for daily wagers at the OTC ground in Ratu Road in a bid to ease the traffic movement in the area.
Seth had inspected Ratu Road a week ago and discussed with the administrative officials about ways to get rid of the frequent traffic jams in the area. During the inspection, he noticed that hundreds of daily wagers assembled under the open sky near Reliance Fresh in Ratu Road in search of work. This, he said, was one of the reasons for traffic congestion in the area as the labourers occupied half of the road while waiting for contractors.
Seth, during the inspection, had asked Ranchi’s Deputy Commission Rai Mahimapat Ray to find a permanent solution to address the overcrowding of labourers in the area. A labour building will be constructed at the spot for daily wagers in the days to come, he said on Sunday. There will be sitting arrangement in the building along with drinking water and toilet facilities so that the laborers from remote areas do not face trouble during extreme weather conditions.
Later in the day, Seth also announced that Sri Krishna Janmashtami Mahotsav Samiti will organise Dahi Handi competition on Sri Krishna Janmashtami festival on August 24.
Seth, who happens to be the patron of organising committee, said that Janmashtami Festival will be observed at Albert Ekka Chowk in the State capital on August 23 and August 24. The committee will celebrate Janmashtami for the eighth time this year, he added.
“On the first day Bal Gopal competition and the Tableau competition will be organised at around 6pm. The Dahi Handi programme will be inaugurated by Chief Minister, Raghubar Das at 7 pm on August 24.
The various teams for Dahi Handi competition will have to register with the organising committee by August 15,” said Seth.
The winning men’s team will get a cash prize of Rs 71,000, while the runner up will get Rs 31,000 and the second runner up will get Rs 21,000, said Seth. On the other hand, the winning women’s team will get Rs 41,000, while the teams that bag the second and third positions will get Rs 21, 000 and Rs 11, 000 respectively, he added.
The height of the Handi will be 20 feet for men and 15 feet for women. State Urban Development Minister C P Singh said on the occasion that the committee is organising the programme to preserve the cultural heritage of India.
