Sanitation drive ahead of Ramnavami, Sarhul

The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) will conduct a special sanitation drive ahead of the two major festivities – Ramnavami and Sarhul. After receiving complaints from various wards, the Municipal Corporation has planned to initiate the special drive from April 5 onwards. The festivals are scheduled in the first and second week of April 2019.

Covering all the 53 wards, the civic body is preparing the blueprint, taking into the account – size, population, requirement of labourers, coverage area and number of drains in each ward. Notably, after the termination of RMSW Essel Infra – the firm which was managing the work of solid waste here, the civic body has taken the charge of all the wards. Earlier, only 20 wards were under the supervision of RMC.

Also, streamlining the sanitation work, especially the door to door garbage collection, is a major challenge at the moment for RMC. As per the plan, besides just cleaning the main avenues and ensuring segregation, collection of garbage, the Municipal Corporation will deploy additional labourers for cleaning the drainages and streets. Preventive measures like fogging will be also done in the meantime at each ward to avert the outbreak of vector-borne diseases.

Issuing instructions to the ward supervisors, a meeting was conducted by the senior officials of the RMC recently. Deputation of extra resources as per the requirements will be given to the ward councilors. Roster plan is being prepared in consultation with the ward councilors. Meanwhile, the officials have instructed the ward supervisors to adopt ‘Beat system’ and chalk out the plan accordingly.

“Considering the upcoming festivals, the health section of RMC will ensure cleanliness at Sarna, Masna sthals besides carrying out the regular cleaning work at residential and commercial pockets. Labourers including machines will be deployed at each ward in accordance to the need. If required, cleanliness work will be carried out in two shifts. During the late night hour as well, the Municipal Corporation is conducting cleanliness drive at major routes now,” said RMC City Manager (Sanitation Cell), Sandeep Kumar.
