A 4,000 feet long concrete guard wall from Hadhadwa Nullah to Nigar Gurha has been demanded by the locals for saving their agricultural fields from getting inundated by sands of two rivers labjee and Amanat. This season rains have brought in tonnes of sand on more than 40 to 45 acres of fields which had lush green paddy cultivation.
Following the overflowing rivers which have receded now, the same fields have been converted into mini desert and buried under two feet of sand. DC Palamu Ameet Kumar when apprised about this problem at Bhandri said a team of officials would take stock of the situation there in a few days time.
A resident of Bhandri Nand Kishore Thakur said the river waters of labjee and Amanat will continue to mar his and others fortunes with sand. Ganesh Thakur's field is also now totally sandy. So are the fields of Girish Thakur Deo Narain Thakur Sanjay Baitha and many others. Neymat Khan said a concrete guard wall is needed also near Baghmanwa nullah as this problem is there too. Paddy and wheat both the crops are now a total waste in to 40 to 45 acres of fields. Ejaz Khan's father too has lost acres of standing paddy crop as sand came with water and covered his fields running into more than 30 acres causing huge losses to the family. A check dam built at Bhandari has collapsed in this season's rains and that has helped change the course of these two rivers said Mumtaz Khan.
