Passengers boarding a bus from Sakchi bus terminus can look forward for better civic amenities. Catering to the needs of the people travelling from major bus hub, Tata Steel’s subsidiary, Jusco has set up the facilities.
A public toilet and a boundary wall of the over 8,000 sq ft depot have come at the bus stand. The toilet (separate for male and female) has been set up to meet the long pending demands of women and senior citizens.
“We have constructed new public toilet as well as the boundary wall. We want to add more facilities so that the people can use the public mode of transport in much ease,” noted a Jusco official. He went to inform that the boundary wall has been built at an expense of nearly Rs2 lakh while the toilets has been constructed at a cost of Rs1.75 lakh.
Meanwhile, officials of Shikshit Berozgar Mini-Bus Association, has welcome the move. “We are thankful to the company for taking initiative to end woes of the passengers. “ We had written letters to both Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco and Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), but no action was taken. However we are happy to note that the civic amenities provider company has stepped in to fulfill our demands,” said Samresh Pandey, a senior functionary of the association.
It may be mentioned that Jusco had handed over the plot, complete with a boundary and single water connection, to the East Singhbhum administration in 2004. However no repair work has been undertaken since. The bus association, on its own, arranged for two taps and a water cooler later, a passengers’ shed was also built by the former MP Ajoy Kumar from his MP fund late last year.
lack of basic amenities at the main hub of one of the most popular public transport systems was a major concern. The 8,000sqft depot, which houses a private fleet of 120 that run on 14 routes across the city, witnesses a daily footfall of more than 1.5 lakh commuters.
